Robert Powell and Liza Goddard star in Sherlock Holmes: The Final Curtain

Robert Powell and Liza Goddard

Those esteemed actors Robert Powell and Liza Goddard often grace the Clive Conway stage, most recently with our celebration of that larger than life French composer Claude Debussy.

But they are currently on a UK tour with The Final Curtain, an  intriguing new take on Britain’s favourite private detective Sherlock Holmes.

The new stage play was penned by Simon Reade after a commission from the Theatre Royal Bath.

It finds Holmes, played by Powell, retired, living on the south coast and struggling to cope with the technological advances of the 1920s.

Needless to say there is a mystery to solve after a body is found and Holmes receives an unexpected visit from Mary Watson (Goddard).

His old friend and estranged wife of his partner, Dr John Watson, needs his help after believing she has seen a loved one return from the dead.

*Sherlock Holmes: The final Curtain is at theNew Theatre, Cardiff, this week and continues to tour to Leicester, Cambridge, Cheltenham and Manchester until the end of July.
