Turn back the clock to a more genteel age when the romantic sounds of Ivor Novello held sway. Star of British stage and screen for four decades, composer and actor Novello was one of the most popular British entertainers of the first half of the 20th century.
Now, in a new show touring with Clive Conway Productions you can take Tea with Ivor Novello and revel in the nostalgic, melodious and romantic musical sounds that have in recent years enjoyed a new popularity through films like Gosford Park and the 2012 BBC Proms.
Tea with Ivor Novello stars Britain’s favourite operatic soprano Marilyn Hill Smith with ian McMillan as Ivor at the piano.
Marilyn Hill Smith will be familiar to fans of the BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night on whuich she has given more than 100 performances.
Featured songs include hits from Novello’s favourite musical romances like Glamorous Night, The Dancing Years, Perchance to Dream, King’s Rhapsody, Gay’s the Word, Arc de Triomphe, Crest of a Wave and Careless Rapture.
