Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce engagement and a spring wedding
Many congratulations to Prince Harry and his girlfriend US, actress Meghan Markle, who have announced their engagement and plan to marry next spring.
A royal wedding is of course just what the nation needs at a time of political and economic uncertainty. Sure enoug,h no sooner had Clarence House announced the good new on Monday than the media was in overdrive with rampant speculation. When will the wedding take place? Where will it be? What will she wear? Where will they honeymoon? Will they live in Britain or America?
Just for the record, online betting company odds indicate that it is likely to be at Westminster Abbey in May next year. Or is it? Windsor Castle and St Paul’s are also in the frame as favoured venue. However May looks about right as William and Kate’s baby is due in April.
Harry and Meghan met through mutual friends in London in July last year. But it wasn’t until October that the press reported news of their romance which was officially confirmed a month later in a statement from Kensington Palace. Tellingly perhaps that statement from Prince Harry also hit out at a press ‘smear’ and ‘outright sexism and racism’ from online troll. A sad sign of the times. Let's hope that the couple are given space and respect, enjoy a lovely wedding and a long and happy life together.
Oh by the way if you’re interested in an online wager. The current long shot for wedding venue is the Queen Vic pub at 500/1. Would you Adama and Eve it? You couldn’t make it up!
