Patricia Routledge back on the road as she preparess to celebrate 91st birthday
I hear that our good friend and ever popular speaker - the actress and singer Dame Patricia Routledge - is taking her celebrated Admission: One Shilling show to Dublin next month.
The production, which finds her appearing alongside international concert pianist Piers Lane, celebrates the famous wartime piano concerts given at London’s National Gallery by Dame Myra Hess. It plays the Pavilion Theatre in Dun Laoghaire on the afternoon of Sunday, February 9 just eight days before Patricia’s 91st birthday.
The show which is directed by Christopher Luscombe tells in Dame Myra’s own words — compiled by her great-nephew, composer Nigel Hess — the story of the 1,600 lunchtime she gave often while bombs rained down on London.
It is accompanied by the piano music of Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Schumann and Chopin.
