Oxford Flute Summer School: August dates and top-end tutors

By: stagedoorscribbler - January 7, 2019

2019 Oxford Flute Summer School runs 18th to 23rd August - at Radley College.

The prestigious annual Oxford Flute Summer School - a milestone in the development of many a fine musician -  returns this summer with courses starting on Sunday 18th August and running through to Friday 23rd August.

Flautists from all over the world will attend.  But if you want to be among them, you  need to hurry. Two thirds of the places have already sold out.

Originally co-founded by its director, flautist and teacher Janet Way and our own flute-tooting boss Clive Conway in 1986, the Summer School enjoys a reputation for international success, meticulous organisation, imaginative planning and world-class teaching.

These days the school is still run by Janet with Katie Alcock. Meanwhile Clive, busy with Clive Conway Productions and his role as chair of the Tutu Foundation UK, supports in a consultative role.

More than 30 years after its debut, it continues to provide a platform on which teachers and performers can exchange ideas, hone skills and learn life and career changing musical techniques.

It offers the opportunity to spend a week playing flute every day while being looked after by the staff at Radley College in the beautiful rolling Oxfordshire countryside. As previous participants can testify it’s amazing how much you can learn in one week in the friendly and supportive atmosphere or our summer school!

It’s ideal for flautists who want to treat themselves to a ‘working holiday’ where you play your flute every day, with a friendly group of like-minded people from around the world.

The support and encouragement on offer suits players of all levels. Perhaps you find it difficult to practise every day without the constraints of everyday life getting in the way.

Or you maybe you want to re-discover your  talents with an immersive flute experience. The Oxford Flute Summer School has lessons and classes to suit everyone, from keen amateur to young professional players. It takes care of everything including accommodation and meals, leaving the musicians to learn, play, and meet other flute players from many parts of the world, both amateur and professional.

There’s expert tuition and advice from world class flautists with direct access an incredible team of flute players, including Kate Hill, Robert Winn, Robert Manasse and Thies Roorda, Professor of Flute at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague.
