James Bolam: Remembering the Likely Lads Terry Collier
I hear that our good friend James Bolam is being sent to Coventry but in the best possible way.
He’ll be among celebrities and special guests appearing in Covcon - the city’s very own ComicCon event which will be staged at the end of September.
This celebration of a vintage era of popular culture and classic shows on film and TV.
It actually centres around the 40th Anniversary of the film of The Who’s Quadrophenia with stars from the 1979 movie lining up to meet fans.
But the event also pays homage to a whole host of classic British TV shows including The Likely Lads which is where the esteemed Mr Bolam comes in.
He played Terry Collier in the hugely popular sitcom back in the 1960s.
Also scheduled to appear are stars from Yes Minister, Doctor Who and Dad’s Army, the latter featuring another familiar face to Clive Conway Productions - Ian Lavender who played Private Pike.
James Bolam will be back with Clive Conway Productions in October appearing alongside his wife the actress Susan Jameson presenting a celebration of English Eccentrics.
This exploration of the colourful and remarkable characters who have enlivened and entertained us through the ages unveils domne remarkable individuals.
Like Joshua Norton, self-proclaimed Emperor of the United States of America; Hermione Gingold, whose autobiography, The World is Square, more than lives up to its title; William Buckland, who ate anything and everything from a bluebottle to the heart of King Louis XIV; and many equally odd and endearing characters.
English Eccentrics is at the Beccles Public Hall & Theatre on 20th October. More info at www.becclespublichall.org.uk
