Just hours before his 88th birthday tomorrow, ill health has forced veteran Labour politician Tony Benn to announce that he is pulling out of a guest appearance at Newbury Corn Exchange’s Protest season.

The decision will have been a bitter blow for Tony who had been looking forward taking part in the programme and would dearly love to be at Newbury on Friday (April 5) giving forth on the importance of protest in a democracy.

*Protest is a month of exhibitions, talks, performances and debates being staged at Newbury Corn Exchange exploring how protest inspires art, and how creativity inspires protest. Tony has managed to film a short address for the evening  and it is hoped that, given a period of rest and recuperation, he will be able to take part in future events.
