Actress Hannah Gordon was born in Edinburgh and trained at the Glasgow College of Music & Dramatic Art where she won the James Bridie Gold Medal and a contract at the Dundee Repertory Theatre.

This was followed by spells at the Glasgow Citizens Theatre, Ipswich, Coventry and Windsor. Her TV career began with the role of Ralph Richardson's daughter in Johnson Over Jordon and she was soon playing leading roles in the BBC's highly successful classic serials of David Copperfield, Great Expectations and Middlemarch. Subsequent television work included Abelard & Heloise, The Orkney Trilogy, The Exiles and Dear Octopus for Yorkshire TV. About this time she also played James Mason's daughter in the film of Spring & Port Wine. 
Her film work also includes the highly acclaimed The Elephant Man with John Hurt and Anthony Hopkins.

She is perhaps best known on Television for My Wife Next Door with John Alderton and Telford's Change with Peter Barkworth but the long list also includes Lady Bellamy in Upstairs, Downstairs, Maggie in JM Barrie's What Every Woman Knows, Good Behaviour by Molly Keane, The Gay Lord Quex, The Day After the Fair by Thomas Hardy which was specially commissioned for her, then as Mrs Durrell in My Family & Other Animals and the comedy series Joint Account with Peter Egan.
She is also known as the presenter of the highly successful Watercolour Challenge on Channel 4, and made a memorable appearance in the last ever episode of One Foot in the Grave.

Hannah is a Fellow of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama and holds an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters from the University of Glasgow.
